I am a licensed clinical psychologist, having received my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I earned a B.A. in psychology with a minor in human development and family studies also from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
I am generalist and work with people struggling with a variety of issues. I have specialized knowledge and expertise in the areas of trauma recovery, post traumatic stress disorder, relationship and family of origin issues, eating disorders and body image concerns, couples counseling, anxiety, women’s issues, and the use of mindfulness and yoga as therapeutic endeavors. As part of my integrative theoretical approach, I have specialized trauma training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, EMDR. I have conducted extensive research in the area of societal influences on the development and prevention of eating and body image issues and have published articles and a book chapter on the prevention of eating disorders. I have also provded several guest lectures, outreach presentations, and invited talks on this subject matter as well as other topics, such as stress management utilizing mindfulness and yoga practices.
I focus on creating a safe, warm, empathic environment for my clients in which to heal and grow. I work within my client's multicultural lens and framework to establish safety and rapport. I include my clients in their treatment planning and process of therapy to create greater gains and a sense of mastery.
I integrate psychodynamic/interpersonal and emotion focused/process experiential theoretical orientations while coming from a feminist world view, thus taking into account the impact of gender, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, and physical and mental disability. I, therefore, draw from a variety interventions best suited to each individual client.
I focus on creating a safe and comfortable home base for my individual and couples clients to explore and learn about themselves without judgment.
I provide cutting edge EMDR thereapy which has been empirically supported in the treatment of trauma/ptsd, anxiety, depression, and somatic concerns.
I provide relevant training and consultation for businesses on a range of topics including stress management, mindfulness, executive and employee performance, and cultural bias.
I provide expert witness testimony and reports on topics of trauma, PTSD, and other mental health issues.
